Registered Massage Therapy
What is it?
The practice of massage therapy is the assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissues and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain. (MTA, 1991)
What to Expect
On your first visit you will complete a confidential health history as the first part of your assessment. As a health professional, I will need to know your complete health history, including any medications you may be currently taking. There are many situations where Massage Therapy treatments need to be modified or not provided depending on the circumstances of your condition or the medications you may be taking. Don’t hold any information back. Your health history is kept strictly confidential and secure.
I will perform an assessment that will find your individual needs as well as other factors contributing to your injury or condition. I will develop a treatment plan to help ensure your goals are met. The Massage Therapy treatment will consist of various specialized movements of the hands, over the skin or clothes.I will work with your level of pain tolerance during the treatment, and the treatment can be stopped at any time should the treatment become uncomfortable.
